Kids-centered online learning resources (FREE)
I have always been fascinated by the digital age we live in now. My sister and brother have been using tablets since they were about two or three years old, and I cannot figure out how humans make those things to play movies and music. My grandparents spook me all the time when we do video chats, but that is another story.
When I search for online learning materials for my siblings, I always prefer those that are FREE! Oh yeah, it is not like I am making tons of money as a stay-at-home canine brother, so I've gotta make sure that I am not breaking the bank. Here are some links I found with the help of my parents:
Website resources for Kids- centered learning:
1) Reading (mostly English, some in Spanish)
All those years my parents bought books from Scholastics is finally paying off. I love that Clifford is still working for this company, shows how loyal we dogs are!
2) STEM/ creativity:
The company has set up a site for students in every grade to discover something new with simple hands-on activities that they can do at home.
3) Science Buddies:
I found this site by accident when searching on YouTube for simple experiments to do with my sister. It actually has a ton of information for parents and teachers, and can be great for older kids to useas a hub of references and inspirations.
Amazon has recently decided to offer a ton of its Audible books for kids for FREE! And I am so glad this is happening because I seriously cannot listen to the silly baby songs and watch strange videos on YouTube with my siblings all day! I know my mom personally will love this idea, as long as I make sure the kids are actually paying attention to the stories the listen to…. I try, as I always do.
5) Math Nation:
This is a great place to explore if your kids are like my sister who loves math. I know she enjoys the extra math assignments her teacher gives her at school and can get bored easily if she already knows all the answers, so this is something I plan to dig into more in the coming weeks to keep her thinking and calculating.
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is offering some very cool resources online during this difficult time. There are many fun ideas, videos and live streaming as well as some outdoor activities (check your local official information and regulations on outdoor activities in your community first).
